September 2016: Randon Collins

Randon Collins

Married 6 years 3 months to Itoya Collins and lives in Austin, TX

First time I knew he would be my husband?

When he told me he loved me a week after we started dating. I knew I had super strong feelings for him too, but I was freaked out that it could happen that fast!

Favorite thing about him?

He is gentle and kind, yet not passive. He rarely raises his voice in anger. He stays calm under pressure and is always respectful to others.

His greatest accomplishment?

Starting seminary. He never finished undergraduate college and struggled with the decision to return to school. After much prayer he heard from the Lord that this was the next step for him.

Superhero/Fictional Character he is most like and why?

Ninja turtle Michelangelo. This is his favorite. The Mikey character is a goofball and this is my favorite side of Randon. He tends to be serious more than me, but I love when he lets loose and acts silly.

What makes him a Dear Hubby?

Randon is just the perfect match for me. I always say he is the only one who could put up with me by choice. I can be very closed off and I rarely let my guard down, which I think can make it difficult to love me. Regardless, Randon took on the challenge from day one. He is very good at meeting my needs and I consider him a true blessing from God.

August 2016: Eric Douglas

Eric Douglas

Married 5 years and 1 month to Rochelle Douglas and lives in Bellflower, CA

First time I knew he would be my husband?

The very first time I knew Eric would be my husband was when my oldest daughter got into some trouble at our apartment complex and I was told we had to move in 10 days. Eric had been dating for about 2 years and he told me we could stay with him.  Also, around this same time I lost my job. Eric would make sure me and my 2 daughters were good. He would make sure their birthdays and holidays were great.

Favorite thing about him?

I love the way everyone just seems to migrate to him. He is such a loving person and would help anyone that's in need. I love that he doesn't treat my kids like they are his stepchildren but he treats them as his very own children.

His greatest accomplishment?

Eric’s greatest accomplishment is making sure his family is taken care of; making everyone else first and himself last. He gets up every morning at 3am for work and on his off days he will make sure our home is taken care of. He is an Army guy, so cleaning to him is not a job but a way of life.

Superhero/Fictional Character he is most like and why?

My husband is my Superman! He knows why… because he loves to wear superman shirts and flex his muscles. I love every part of him and those muscles!

What makes him a Dear Hubby?

My husband is the best husband and man on this planet in my eyes. When someone comes into your life, like my husband came into mine, we have to be very grateful. I am very happy and appreciative that his parents raised him to be great.

July 2016: Michaux C.

Michaux C.

Married 23 years to Arlana Clopton and lives in Austin, TX

First time I knew he would be my husband?

When Michaux wrote a love song for me I knew he would be my husband.

Favorite thing about him?

My favorite thing about him is his heart, love for God and Family. I also admire his creativity and wit.

His greatest accomplishment?

Traveling overseas to record an album that God put in his heart is his greatest accomplishment. Michaux did not know who or how it was all going to be done but accomplished what he set out to do.

Superhero/Fictional Character he is most like and why?

Michaux is most like Green Lantern. He has the ability to create and materialize just about anything into being. He is very much a thinker, creator and inventor at heart.

What makes him a Dear Hubby?

Michaux is a Dear Hubby because of his love for God, his fellow man/woman and animals. He does not like to see injustice and tries to help whenever possible. I live him for that!

June 2016: Charles King

Charles King

Married 16 years 11 months to Tamika King and lives in Austin, TX

First time I knew he would be my husband?

The first time I knew Charles would be my husband was when I realized he remembered things I said about places & things I enjoyed like my favorite restaurants, music, movies, dancing, etc. After our first date he made plans to take me to my favorite restaurant & to a jazz music venue I really liked. He paid close attention to what I said during casual conversation & followed up on it. He still does that all these years later.

Favorite thing about him?

Charles is the most patient, kind-hearted, gentle & loving man I've ever known. He doesn't feel there are his & her chores. He does laundry, plus other household chores & he's also an excellent cook who makes dinner for us almost everyday. When we found out I was allergic to gluten, he started reading books on cooking gluten-free meals. Those meals are just as good, if not better, than the meals he made that contained gluten.

His greatest accomplishment?

I'd say his greatest accomplishment was leaving a custodian job where he worked for years at an elementary school to working a job at UT Austin where he is the supervisor of several staff. Charles has helped staff that others had basically given up on and retrained them to become some of the best employees on his staff.

Superhero/Fictional Character he is most like and why?

I'd have to say the closest superhero Charles reminds me of would be superman. As a child I remember superman flying in to save others that were in danger, or rescuing a young woman that was in trouble. Plus, superman kind of did it all & so does my hubby.

What makes him a Dear Hubby?

When I met Charles in 1995, I had no plans to marry, but God had other plans for me. Charles told me during our first date that he was a patient man and all these years later he continues to display that trait. He always puts God first in our marriage and our bond has gotten so strong because of his love for Christ. He's a better caregiver than any nurse and I know he loves me to his core. I really believe other men could learn a lot from him on how to become a better husband. He's not a perfect hubby, but he loves me so well and he's open to learn more from God on ways to show his love. We've gone through some tough years together, but through it all God has heard our cries, honored our prayers and increased our love for one another. After all these years I cannot imagine my life with anyone else by my side.
